What is a Whip Cream Dispenser?

Also, known as a cream whipper, this is a hand-held kitchen tool that is uniquely made to create whipped cream. It makes whipped cream by combining liquid whipping cream with food-grade nitrous oxide gas.

Whip Cream Dispenser Parts and How they Function

This kitchen tool is made up of two main parts, the bottle, and the head.

Dispenser Bottle

Whip cream dispenser bottles are usually made of aluminum or stainless steel. They range in size from 1/2-pint (1/4 liter), 1 pint (1/2 liter), 1 quart (1 liter). Stainless steel bottles outperform aluminum ones in design and durability. They’re also dishwasher safe.

Dispenser Head

Cream whipper heads are usually made of aluminum, composite plastic, or stainless steel.

Irrespective of the material a dispenser head is made of, we strongly advise you to wash it by hand. The head is not dishwasher safe because not all the parts are made of the same material. Washing by hand helps avoid any degradation of the parts.

A cream whipper head is made of the following parts:

Head Gasket

Head gasket.

Inside the head, you will find a dispenser head gasket as well as a head valve.

The gasket is inserted into the head to provide a strong seal on the cream whipper to prevent nitrous oxide gas from leaking. It’s important that the gasket is correctly positioned for it to function properly.

Gaskets can be made of silicone or rubber. Silicone gaskets are best suited for the preparation of hot or warm foams. It gives you a few more options. The rubber gaskets, on the other hand, are just perfect for cold applications like creating whipped cream.

Head Valve

The dispenser head valve is a simple seal with an entrance hole. The pressurized liquid whipping cream will dispense through the valve tip.

Many whipped cream dispenser brands allow for the removal and cleaning of the head valves. Some brands, however, design their models in such a way that the head valve will not come out.

But here is the thing folks, there’s no standard head valve size. So, you must verify the head valve that is correct for your cream whipper.

Decorator Tips

The decorator tips are what help you create unique whipped cream patterns. They’re usually made out of plastic or stainless steel.

Most dispensers on the market allow you to screw decorator tips directly onto the head. But some models require you to use a coupler to attach a decorator tip onto the head.

There Are three popular types of decorator tips, which include straight, star, and tulip for a variety of applications.

Piercing Pin

Piercing Pin

The nitrous oxide cream chargers are pierced by a pin that is installed in the cream whipper head by the manufacturer. You’re not supposed to remove or change the piercing pin. The pin pierces the N2O cartridge and gas enters into the dispenser bottle through the piercing pin.

Cream Charger Holder

Then we have the cream charger holder, which screws directly on top of the piercing pin.

Its function is fairly simple and that is holding the cream charger into place for the piercing pin to pierce the cartridge. You have to slide the cartridge inside the holder with the narrow end facing outwards.

As the charger holder is threaded, it pushes the nitrous oxide cartridge into the piercing pin. The gas evacuates the charger and enters into the bottle that contains the liquid whipping cream.

Cream whippers also come with a dust cap. This is a small cap that threads on top of the piercing pin. Once the gas has been dispersed into the bottle, you can remove the holder and the cartridge and cover the pin with the dust cap.

The Lever

This is a very important part of any cream whipper on the market. It is the part of the dispenser head that you press to create whipped cream. The best cream whippers like the ones from GreatWhip have lever action with fine-tuning capabilities for simple, safe, and easy portioning.
